Q PLATES
Q plates are issued by the DVLA when certain aspects of a car's history are unknown.
If you plan to complete your self build Raptor using second hand parts from various sources and whose age or identity cannot be confirmed then upon registration you will be issued a Q Plate.
If you are a "builder on a budget" who has the skillset to build a vehicle to IVA standard then this may be an excellent route into Raptor ownership for you.
Helpful Tips for your Q Plate Build
TAKE Photos OF YOUR BUILD
On completion of your build you will need to apply for your IVA test under Amatuer Build status . This means you must supply photos of the build process. IVA assessors need to see photos of the 6 major components. The Major componets are listed below
Engine: Engine prior to fitting & fitted
Body: Bodywork fitted
Suspension: Shock absorbers/Push rods/ wishbones
Axles: (axle or wishbones /hubs )
Transmission: Gearbox prior to fitting and fitted
Steering Assembly: Steering rack /Upper steering column
In addition to the photos you will also need receipts for the 6 major components you have purchased . In some cases this could simply be for a donor car .

The emission test is determined by the from what the year of donor vehicle that the engine was removed from. Pre August 1993 ,means that you will tested on a higher emission level and Catalyst convertor is not required.
The emission test is determined by the from what the year of donor vehicle that the engine was removed from is Post August 1993 , this means that you will tested on a higher emission level and Catalyst convertor will be required to meet the current emission levels.
If you are unable to prove the year of the engine then you will be automatically test at the current emission level. One word of advice is , if your engine has single of twin carburettors , performance camshaft fitted there is now way you will meet the curent emission levels.
