PLANNING YOUR BUILD

Build Time and Self Build Module Structure

The average time to assemble a Raptor kit is around 100 hours.  However, in the real world – with work, family, and everyday life – most self-builders complete their cars over a period of 18 to 24 months, working on days off and weekends.

To make the process more manageable, the self-build kit is divided into six clearly defined build modules, each structured in the correct order of assembly.

Most customers choose not to purchase all six modules in one go – and with good reason.  The initial outlay for a full kit can be significant.

We actively encourage builders to purchase one module at a time, based on their budget and available time.  This not only spreads out the cost but also reduces the need for storage space and lowers the risk of damage or loss to parts during the build.

IVA and Registration – Decide Before You Build

Before ordering any parts, it’s important to consider how you want your finished Raptor to be registered with the DVLA.  There are two routes depending on how many components you reuse from your donor car:

  • Brand-New Registration – You can only use one major reconditioned component.  All other key components must be new.

  • Age-Related Registration – You can use two or more reconditioned parts from your donor vehicle.

Your choice affects the parts you can reuse from your MX5 and what you'll need to order from us.   Deciding early helps ensure your build stays on track with IVA requirements and First Registration rules.  As always, we will help to guide you through the process.
